One thing to keep an eye out for testing is change to the binary distribution.
We should be able to run startup.sh from:
cd $GEOSERVER_HOME
bin/startup.sh
or:
cd GEOSERVER_HOME/bin
./startup.sh

Other developers, I am starting with the release now. I note that there were no recent PRs, and also that a new GWC version 1.23.3 is required (Andrea, Jody, please assist).

GeoServer release artifacts are available for testing: https://build.geoserver.org/view/release/job/geoserver-release/135/artifact/distribution/2.23.4/
I do note that the winsetup.exe is only available 30 min later than the other files.
I have tested startup.sh from both HOME and HOME/bin - both work.
