Status Report and update on GeoWebCache for the week anding on June 13th, 2008
This week I've begun working with restlet.org. I've written and integrated into GWC a small servlet using restlet.org. Furthermore, together with my mentor we've been discussing a different way of storing the datastructures for the Layer Profiles. We convened upon XML files. I've also written a simple XMLReader/Writer using jdom.org for future use.
We then moved on further to discussing the modifications needed for the TileLayer to adopt the change to XML stored profiles and the RESTful interface for access/modification.
The following week I will begin coding to implement these changes. No blocks thus far.
Thank you,
Marius Suta
Hi Marius, hi all
I’d like to test run the WebMap-“open source stack” GeoServer / GeoWebCache / OpenLayers / PostGIS.
Is GeoWebCache now a fully integrated extension to GeoServer - or is it planned to become integrated - or is it a separate project?
I’m confused because http://geoserver.org/display/GEOS/Latest (1.7.0) mentiones it and points to GeoServer on sf.net whereas http://geowebcache.org obviously is a separate project home page.

Check out the new SourceForge.net Marketplace.
It’s the best place to buy or sell services for
just about anything Open Source.

I think this may help to explain:
http://geoserver.org/display/GEOSDOC/GeoWebCache
GWC is currently slightly easier to use as an extension to GeoServer,
but slightly more flexible in stand-alone mode (per-layer configuration,
multiple WMS backends). This difference will go away as the GSOC project
progresses and the system gets a real configuration interface, but some
users may still want to deploy independent GWCs since they use less
memory than GeoServer, or possibly put them in front of servers other
than GeoServer.
