I'm trying to come up to speed with grass/geoserver/postgis/mapserver
without a GIS background and am somewhat swamped.
For instance, I've got mapserver/geoserver/postgis/grass running and have
loaded shp files w/ lat/long into postgis but now need to load
some e00 files into postgis but the e00 files are in albers(?)
projection with non-lat/long coordinate system. Trying
to navigate through this w/o being grounded in the terminology
is difficult.
Also, human interface guidelines for imagery generated
would be useful, i.e. how to best represent a data item
(i.e. population per square mile) that may run from 0 to a million
(working with small areas hence the million figure) where it's
important to capture detail at the low end of the continuum
but also flag the high end --- so what are good color
spectrums or other techniques to represent this info.
Any good book suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
