Why not include an atomatic process or web process for create featuretypes,
or another manner for take metadata from postgis databases?
I also asked this question a few weeks ago, and I decided to make my own program that extracts data from PostGis dataBase and transforms into into xml schemas. The only problem is that some data types are not handled by this program, but it's easy to improve (because it's a very light program). For example, I didn't test the program with date fields. Maybe it works, maybe not...
If someone wants the source code. Just ask me !
Otherwise, wait for a real release from someone who would make a consistent program with all postGis data types handled... (But you may wait some time !)

Steph

Could I get the source code to this? Is it in java? I'm thinking of
incorporating it into geoserver. Something so that users that are not
super gml knowledgable can just make a schema.xml file that says <EXPAND
ME> or something and geoserver will read that file and know that it should
just make a schema.xml file. That way users would still be able to create
their own schema.xml files if they know a lot about gml and want it to
validate in a certain way. But I think the majority of geoserver users
probably just want it easier to use. If anyone else has some code to do
this, please send it to me. Java is preferrably, but I'd like to see
other approaches as well - perhaps we could just include a set up shell
script or something. Also, if anyone has preferences for the user
interaction to generate the schemas, let the list know. Shell script,
automatic in java, others?
thanks,
Chris
