[Geoserver-devel] Graduating importer, where we're at?

Hi,
I was wondering what’s the status of the importer, did the REST api settle down
enough to make it upgradable to extension?

Cheers
Andrea

Hey Andrea,

Working is going, be it slowly due to other commitments. Ian has been making great process working on a client that consumes the rest api changes. I’ll let him comment on where that is at.

My vote would be to hold off on promoting it until we have a working client implementation. Rationale being that I would like to avoid hitting publish now making the api a contract, and then have ian find a serious flaw that we can’t fix cleanly without jumping through backward compatibility hoops.

Yep, makes sense, thanks for the update

Hey Andrea (and everyone),

Working is going, be it slowly due to other commitments. Ian has been making great process working on a client that consumes the rest api changes. I’ll let him comment on where that is at.

The client is in good shape with integration tests. Once I’ve finished up some other fixes and docs, I’ll make it more public

The other part is that I’m maintaining a branch of the community importer w/ fixes I’m running into.

I’m happy to collaborate more and have on my list a number of issues that I’ll either file as JIRA tickets or just deal with if time permits.

Nice, looking forward to it

The other part is that I'm maintaining a branch of the community importer
w/ fixes I'm running into.

I guess it would be nice to merge those fixes into to the GeoServer
community module, assuming there are resources
to do so. Worst case, I guess the community will find and re-fix (possibly
in different ways) the same issues.

I'm happy to collaborate more and have on my list a number of issues that
I'll either file as JIRA tickets or just deal with if time permits.

Yep, that would be much appreciated (time permitting)

Cheers
Andrea
