[Geoserver-devel] GSIP #24

Hi guys,
here the GSIP #24 - Time/Elevation/Band parameters for WMS 1.1.1 and WCS 1.x
http://geoserver.org/display/GEOS/GSIP+24±+TIME-ELEVATION-BAND+parameters+for+WMS+1.1.1+WCS+1.X

Please send feedbacks and comments.
It would be nice to discuss it at next meeting and if possible vote also.

Cheers,
Alessio.

The proposal is good but it covers only the service part.
In order to handle ND coverages you'll have to make also
configuration changes, and possibly changes to the coverage
readers as well? What about the WMS code, how do you access
to a temporal slice? What about the capabilities, you wanted
to expose the slices as separate layers, all child of a single
layer no?

All in all it seems the proposal covers only one part of the
changes you're going to make in order to have ND coverages
work in GeoServer, I would like the full meal instead

Cheers
Andrea

Hi Andrea,

my idea would be to proceed step by step even because before changing the coverage readers we need a bit more work on GeoTools side and want to be sure the ND plugins are stable and well done.
The objective of the proposal is to allow GeoServer to handle the ND requests and responses just at service level without touching for the moment the Catalog and the readers. Lets say … a sort of preparatory proposal for the hardest part of the ND work.

Which means, once this proposal is done, GeoServer won't be actually
able to handle ND coverages, right?
You should make it clear in the proposal that the work is just a preparation for ND handling, the title is misleading

Ok Andrea,
I’ll specify better the title and the objective of the proposal.

Looks great Alessio. Nice work on putting together a tutorial on how to create the EMF project, it is something that my lazy self has been wanting to do for quite some time
