Hi List,
I'm Felix Fischer, a 25 years old Computer Science student and I'm
interested in applying as a GSOC student for Geoserver.
I'm studying at the Humbold University Berlin, Germany. Currently I'm
doing an exchange year at Swansea University, United Kingdom.
I'm interested in both ideas mentioned on the GSOC ideas page [2] and I
have a preference for the user interface upgrade.
I have to admit that the description is a litte bit vague to me.
Can someone give me a hint or something where I can get more
information? I never did anything with Geoserver before, therefore I
don't know how hard/easy the tasks are and how long they should take.
While digging through the archive I found one thread about GSOC [1].
Is there somebody who could mentor me?
On a first look wicket seems to be quite handy and I have some
experience with java (mostly Android) & C++. Are there any other
prerequisites?
Cheers,
Welcome to the email list Felix - you caught us on a busy day as we are making the GeoServer 2.7 release.
We had a code sprint last week and started looking at CITE tests, but more work (and more tests such as WPS) are available. I would recommend this project for building connections in the industry (as there would be some overlap with the CITE TEAM Engine project). The work tends to be tricky with knowledge of XML required (if a service produces XML output use of XPath
The UI refresh is challenging in a different way (and may be more fun due to user interaction). A quick web search shows:
