[Geoserver-devel] Hosting italian GeoServer docs

Hi all,
so the italian translation of the docs is starting to take shape,
with one person and one document written (in its own wiki), and another
person interested in contributing.

If I remember properly we were interested in hosting such foreign
language doc efforts in our site, and in particular in the wiki,
this being user contributed documentation.

This page:
http://geoserver.org/display/GEOSDOC/Users+Guide

could be a place, and we could add a "translated docs" paragraph
near the top, pointing at language specific pages, but it seems a little
crowded already.
What about having a direct link from the home page to an "International
docs" page that then points to specific language pages?

Cheers
Andrea

How about just little links along the top for the various languages... that is how i usually find translated versions of pages on other sites. Just a thought. But i am fine with a link somewhere in the side bar as well.

Something like this?
http://geoserver.org/display/GEOSDOC/Users+Guide

I would have liked to make links smaller but the link to the full
confluence wiki syntax is not available when I edit that page
(I thought I asked it to be re-instated? Hard to ask people to
edit on confluence when the syntax is not readily available...)

Cheers

I was thinking something a little less prominent. Like a little link on the right hand side, at the same level as the bread crumbs.

Yeah... its sort of a process. Tenzochris instructed me you have to cahnge the layout, and upload a jar to confluence, and then restart.

Chris, I know you sent me a link to the confluence template in svn the other day, can't quite remember where it was though.

Ah, yeah, that would work, thought I guess it may have troubles
scaling up with many different languages.
Afaik the idea is not to have translation of each page thought,
but more of a separate document. Having a 1-1 translation would
ask for having the docs in Sphinx imho, but that would require
a team of translators that do want to chase the official docs
as they evolve. Would be great, but I'm not holding by breath
on that (feel free to prove me wrong thought, I like this kind
of surprises).

Uh, seems this kind of chances are process heavy. Hopefully we won't
have to make many of them.
