Hi,
recently we got this jira and patch:
http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-5662
It contains a Netbeans specific file to run GeoServer in Jetty from Netbeans.
As far as I know, that should not be necessary, the Start program in web/app
tests should be IDE independent.
However… what would be our position regarding adding IDE specific files in the
version control?
Eclipse ones should never get in, since they can be generated from Maven,
but this specific one does not seems something one could generate automatically
Cheers
Andrea

And how should we handle configuration file changes between different versions of the same IDE ?
Assuming you have developers using different versions of the same IDE and the config file syntax differs between the IDE versions. Which version should we store in the repository ?.
Sounds like a hot potato to me.
Just my 2 cents

Hmmm… while I can sympathize with folks that can’t easily generate their ide specific files i think if we open this door it will start to become more trouble that its worth. I can see patches starting to contain unneeded differences and Christian brings up a great point about IDE versions.
In general I would be -1 on this unless there was a big push from developers to allow for it.
