Ciao Mike,
here http://geoserver.org/display/GEOS/Raster+Legends+Explained
you can find an initial draft for the raster legend, so that you can
play a bit with it.

Ciao Simone. Thanks!
I'm working off of a nightly build (022509) and trying to test with the sf:sfdem layer (as it's included with GeoServer), but any requests I try to generate (such as [1]) generate the dreaded "java.lang.NullPointerException
null" error. I then tried with the nurc:Arc_sample layer, and got a bit farther [2] but Now I'm getting something like this, regardless of what I put for width or height: "java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Width (0) and height (180) cannot be <= 0"
Please advise?

Ciao Justin,
yeah, that would be better probably, I just did more tests and a minor
refact that will help me to backport any work on raster legends that I
will do for the 2.0 series.
The changes you need to ger are restricted to 2-3 classes for legends
inside WMS.
I would appreciate if Mike could do some more testing, just make sure
he is happy with the latest results.

Hmmm... well the artifacts are already built and uploaded to sf... so rebuilding them now would be sort of a pain. Also if there is any lesson I learned this time around (one i seem to have to learn again and again) is that last minute changes are usually not worth it.
How about a compromise. We could upload a separate artifact this time as an "extension" artifact? In fact it would replace some of their existing jars but that should not really matter.

Ciao Justin,
I have no problems with whatever you decide to do. We are not going to
do any further development on this in the short term and we are
working out of a snapshot/custom build anyway.
If there is the need, people using it and finding bugs, we could drive
another release ourselves in the really short term.
Simone.

I vote for waiting until 1.7.4 to publicize this, and pointing people to the nightlies if they need it now. It's one less extension to deal with.
Thanks,

Hmmm... well the artifacts are already built and uploaded to sf... so rebuilding them now would be sort of a pain. Also if there is any lesson I learned this time around (one i seem to have to learn again and again) is that last minute changes are usually not worth it.
How about a compromise. We could upload a separate artifact this time as an "extension" artifact? In fact it would replace some of their existing jars but that should not really matter.

Ciao Justin,
yeah, that would be better probably, I just did more tests and a minor
refact that will help me to backport any work on raster legends that I
will do for the 2.0 series.
The changes you need to ger are restricted to 2-3 classes for legends
inside WMS.
I would appreciate if Mike could do some more testing, just make sure
he is happy with the latest results.
Simone.

I'm working off of a nightly build (022509) and trying to test with the
sf:sfdem layer (as it's included with GeoServer), but any requests I try
to generate (such as [1]) generate the dreaded
"java.lang.NullPointerException
null" error. I then tried with the nurc:Arc_sample layer, and got a bit
farther [2] but Now I'm getting something like this, regardless of what
I put for width or height: "java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Width
(0) and height (180) cannot be <= 0"
Please advise?

+1,
btw mike, tobia, one of the guys who work with us is dropping some
examples to the RasterSymbolizer UI for ColorMap and ChannelSelection.
I should try to add more when he is done, anyway, once we get to that
point I will ask him to ping you.
Simone.
