[Geoserver-devel] [jira] Created: (GEOS-1103) Investigate TileCache through Jython

Investigate TileCache through Jython
------------------------------------

                 Key: GEOS-1103
                 URL: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-1103
             Project: GeoServer
          Issue Type: Task
          Components: Google Earth KML Output
    Affects Versions: 1.5.0
            Reporter: Chris Holmes
            Assignee: Andrea Aime
             Fix For: 1.5.2

It'd be really nice if we could ship with some caching now that we've got super overlays. JTileCache is obviously on the way, but John Blower has done some work to get the python tile cache working in jython. He's got it in a war, so we should try it out. My main concern is speed, as Jython is rumored to be pretty slow. But if this is quick it could be a good option.

From his email:

'I have done some work to convert TileCache (version 1.4) to
work as a Java web application, so this might work for you. Please
see my notes at
http://www.resc.rdg.ac.uk/twiki/bin/view/Resc/TileCacheAsJavaServlet.

Essentially, you download TileCache as a web application (WAR file)
from the above page and drop it in your webapps directory. You might
have to restart Jetty. You have to create a tilecache config file, as
described on the tilecache website.

Please note that I have only done very basic testing on this! Any
comments would be most welcome.'
