Make a good LookAt for KML layers
---------------------------------
Key: GEOS-1240
URL: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-1240
Project: GeoServer
Issue Type: Improvement
Reporter: Chris Holmes
Assignee: Andrea Aime
Fix For: 1.6.0-beta3
One of the nice features that most hand generated KML layers have is a good lookAt setting, so that when you load up the layer it takes you right there. This will take a bit of math and experimentation to figure out a way to automatically derive a good one. KML lets you set the lat/long point, and the range (in kilometers) and tilt for how far away and from what angle to look at. We know the lat/long bounds of the featureType, which should be enough to derive how many square kilometers the area filled is, and from there we can figure out how far away we need to set the camera to get the entire dataset? I'm not sure, but I think there should be a way to do it.
