Let users choose field for KML name element through the configuration interface
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Key: GEOS-2511
URL: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-2511
Project: GeoServer
Issue Type: Improvement
Affects Versions: 1.7.1
Reporter: Arne Kepp
Assignee: David Winslow
Fix For: 1.7.2
The name attribute , which can currently be specified through title.ftl, is arguably the most important KML tag, especially for geosearch. I think one of the reasons that we have not seen features show up is that on the current instance the default name is the name of the feature type, which means every placemark has the same name. (Benzo and the layers I made have title.ftl, which is why they can be found).
I'm currently testing 1.7.1, it looks like it may be using the fid as default (which would be reasonably good). But I think this is important enough to warrant another pulldown in the configuration panel which lets you specify the field to use in the name tag.
title.ftl should be able to override this choice, in case people want something more fancy, but this needs to be accessible.
