We may want to give the ODF Toolkit a look for reporting needs. It can be used to justify renaming the Excel module to the Spreadsheet module (personal pet peeve), or to automatically generate reports / letters.
From past experience I also know there are people who like to edit tabular data in spreadsheet. The workflow being that you export a bunch of data using a query, modify it in a spreadsheet, then upload the same spreadsheet to have the values updated on the backend.
ODF Toolkit is licensed under the Apache license, requires Java 5 and available as a jar. Building the jar itself appears to require netbeans.
