More details on "Inernal error"
-------------------------------
Key: GEOS-3420
URL: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-3420
Project: GeoServer
Issue Type: Improvement
Components: Wicket UI
Affects Versions: 2.0-RC1
Reporter: Mike Pumphrey
Assignee: Andrea Aime
Priority: Minor
Fix For: 2.0-RC2
Be careful what you wish for. In GS 1.x I always wished that the user didn't see the explosion of Java errors in the browser when something went wrong. However, for many errors in GS 2, when something goes bad, all the user sees is an orange "Internal Error". Without any description of what actually happened.
I would like to suggest some sort of a middle ground:
"Click here to see more details about this error." This would either expand to show the entire Java stack trace, or pop it up somehow.
Also, since I find that, for a non dev like myself, the topmost line in a Java stack trace is the only one that's remotely helpful (except for, ahem, NPEs), perhaps only the first line of the stack trace could be displayed by default?
