interface not supported without a spatial index
------------------------------------------------
Key: GEOS-3426
URL: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-3426
Project: GeoServer
Issue Type: Wish
Components: Oracle
Affects Versions: 1.7.6
Environment: Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 SP1, Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0, GeoServer 1.7.6
Reporter: Karaman
Assignee: Andrea Aime

After loading the tab files (map files) into the database using easyLoader (a tool from MapInfo) , I want to visualize the table as map.
Intetionally, neither I activated the box "Create Spatial Index" nor did I create it manually.
When I try to map, with "Map Preview" in GeoServer, I get the error "ORA-13226: interface not supported without a spatial index".
As the tables are partitioned, I am not able to create spatial index, altough oracle docs say "You can create a partitioned spatial index on a partitioned table".
I if I create the spatial index, everything is fine. (on a not partitioned table)
Now my question: why is spatial indexing necessary in GeoSpatial? What if I don't need it? MapInfo also doesn't need it.
Is there a way to pass on spatial indexing?
Or is this / GeoServer not the reason for my problem?
Thanking you in anticipation
