I also have an interest in seeing this issue resolved quickly. Do you
know what the timeframe is? I would be happy to assist.
As soon as the Geoserver SVN is back! Technically it should only be
copying the .jar to the lib/ directory and testing.
As I understand it, the indexed shapefile datastore still has some
bugs,
Do you know what they are? UDIG is using it as the default shapefile
datastore.
I'll keep support for "shapefile" and "shapefile (spatially indexed)" as
separate datastore types in the web app since you will not always want
a shapefile to be indexed.

Hi Dave,
Jesse mentioned to me a few days ago that the indexed shapefile datastore has a bug in writing data. I don't know much beyond that.
Perhaps Jesse can tell us more....

I have had very good luck with the datastore but I know that *occasionally*
people have had issues with it not writing out attributes. dblasbly was the one
who reported it as a matter of fact. It has to do with the same process reading
and writing to the same samefile in quick succession. I have only seen it show
up once in the last 1 1/2 month and that was with Dave. Amr has been using udig
quite a bit (doing editing) and hasn't encountered the problem yet. So I don't
think it is a critical bug.
