trying to save changes to a feature type
----------------------------------------
Key: GEOS-452
URL: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-452
Project: GeoServer
Type: Task
Components: WMS
Versions: 1.3.0 RC5
Environment: Windows XP
Reporter: Chris Ewing
Assigned to: Gabriel Roldán
Priority: Minor
I have just started using geoserver; bear with me!
I am trying to view 3 shapefiles and they work (but not when I stop and restart geoserver!!)
I loaded the shapefiles and put in the correct styles and then sorted the feature types.
I then hit Apply and Save and save my changes. Everything worked fine. I could put in a request and get back a map image using the L416 shapefiles.
However when I stop geoserver and start it up again I get the following error message in my internet page for the map request:
java.util.NoSuchElementException: Could not locate FeatureTypeConfig 'L416:Background'
Basically because there is no layer (feature type i.e. L416:Background). This is very annoying as I had created the feature type. When I go into the admin pages for geoserver the feature type is not there.
It seems that when I stop and then restart Geoserver the layer (feature type) is lost!
Has anyone any ideas? I notice with the shapefiles there are info.xml files. for some reason for the background shapefile no xml document is created.
Could it be read/write permissions?

Hi chris,
What environment are you running this on? (OS/Java)
What servelet container are you using? (jetty/tomcat)
I can't replicate the problem here on my machine. The background file should have an info.xml file associated with it in the featureTypes/L416_Background folder. If not, then the data was not saved correctly. Are you using your own data directory (specified in web.xml) or the default?
