Intermittent DefaultCatalogFacade NullPointerExceptions
-------------------------------------------------------
Key: GEOS-4721
URL: https://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-4721
Project: GeoServer
Issue Type: Bug
Components: Transactions/Locking
Affects Versions: 2.1.0
Environment: CentOS 5.6
Tomcat 6.0.29
Java 1.6.0_24
Reporter: Matt Bertrand
Assignee: Andrea Aime
Attachments: geoserver_admin_exception.txt, geoserver_NullPointerException.txt
Intermittently, the Geoserver catalog stored in memory seems to become incomplete or corrupted leading to NullPointerExceptions for some layers when doing GetMap requests(the stacktrace is attached). From the Geoserver admin console, these layers still appear in the catalog list, but a WicketRuntimeException occurs when loading the edit page for one of the affected layers (stack trace attached). The catalog needs to be reloaded (and occasionally Tomcat needs to be restarted) to restore the layers. The exception seems to occur most frequently when new layers are added (or removed) via the REST API.
The potential fix for this may be [GEOS-4413|http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-4413\]
