CRS handling in GeoFence needs some changes in the DTOs, breaking the API. Versions compatibility is documented at https://github.com/geoserver/geofence/wiki/Compatibility-matrix-(GS-2.17-2.19,-GF-3.4.x-3.5.x. The API changes were targeted to GS 2.19.x and GF 3.5.0. Backporting the GS related changes to 2.18.x did break compatibility.
