The DataAccessLimits class serialize filter using the OGC filter specs (XML). This leads to error in the serialization if Filter not conformant to the OGC spec are there like Filter.INCLUDE or EXCLUDE.

To reproduce:

  • run GeoServer with the geofence-server extension.
  • Configure a GeoFence rule from UI to allows everyone to read everything.
  • Force wicket serialization by keeping opened the browser tabs on the same layer configuration page
  • Exception will be thrown by the readFilter method in the DataAccessLimits class.
