This is not valid anymore.
According to Christian Mueller the current master password can be resolved this way:
“Go to the password page, you will find a button to export the master password to a file of your choice.”
Masterpasswd.info file doesn’t exist anymore. Default master password is ‘geoserver’ and it should be changed right away during the first administrative login.
Instructions on how to change it are missing?
