In GeoServer 2.5 (in my case RC1) there was a new feature introduced: “Use of ST_Simplify to improve PostGIS rendering performance”. So far so good but now I cannot publish PostGIS tables with geography columns any more. I get the following error.
DE:

> org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: FEHLER: Funktion st_simplify(geography, numeric) existiert nicht

EN:

> org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: ERROR: function st_simplify(geography, numeric) does not exist

When publishing my layer I use a projected UTM SRS as “Declared SRS” which should result in a geometry rather than a geography. So the introduced simplification takes place before the projection.
