Currently the integrated GWC instance causes a registration conflict of the ImageIO and ImageIO-EXT SPIs. This issue can be avoided in GWC by adding an initializer handling the registration of the ImageIO plugins. This requires a little modification on the GeoServer application context file geowebcache-wmsservice-context.xml.
