While the REST API currently supports a “recurse” mode for the deletion of layers, it’s not the case for styles.
With this feature, it’s possible to unconditionally remove styles, even if they are referenced by layers.
It basically provides a way to mimic the behavior of the Web UI (asking for confirmation to update layers referenced by the style to be removed).
