The SQL server extension doesn’t require a connection port to be provided and don’t assume any default. If no connection port is provided the data store connection will fail with:

Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException: Could not acquire data access 'dyreposisjoner',
        at org.geoserver.catalog.ResourcePool.getDataStore(ResourcePool.java:606),
        ... 131 more,

The connection port mandatory should be mandatory on the UI configuration page and the default port 1433 should be used.
