I ran into an issue trying to upload styles with ‘-’ in their names via the REST interface today. I’m not sure if this the same issue as http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-6811 or not.
This is on GS 2.6.2 and Centos 7.
Let me know if we need another Jira for this one.

The same fix should work, you can try 2.6.x as the fix has been back ported.
