[Geoserver-devel] Moving gsconfig Python Client repo to GeoServer.org

Hi list,
the ‘gsconfig’ project consists of a very useful set of client utilities written in Python for the management of the GeoServer Catalog through the REST API.

The project is currently hosted by boundlessgeo GitHub repo

https://github.com/boundlessgeo/gsconfig

I’m here want to ask if the GeoServer Community agrees to move the gsconfig repo into the official GeoServer one for several reasons:

  • Most of the core gsconfig developers (quite active on the project which is heavily used by frameworks like GeoNode for instance) do not have access anymore to the repo and renewing the access (or ask for a new one) seems to be a bit long and difficult

  • The gsconfig client is widely used and is a reference point for every Python project or utility currently interacting with GeoServer

Other than this we also (GeoSolutions) are using the gsconfig for a bunch of project and for that reason I really would like to become the (or one of the) maintainers.

On my opinion would be important to have the gsconfig stuff living on the GeoServer repo even because it will be a big opportunity to boost the project and give to the people currently using/dveloping GeoServer the opportunity to get involved on testing and development of the gsconfig client.

What do you think about my proposal? Do you have any concern or question?
In case of positive feedbacks, how can we proceed?

Many Thanks,
Alessio Fabiani.

Excellent, thanks for sharing, have a core set of developers is a nice (and
