[Geoserver-devel] Mvn site failure

I am trying to build the javadocs (and UML diagrams?) but maven is failing an I'm not sure why. Should "mvn site" be all I need to generate the javadocs? Here is the error:

Hey Michael,

We use the javadoc:aggregate goal directly to generate out javadocs. Just run it from the root of the source tree.

We don’t ever run maven site but if i do remember it does indeed have issues, not sure why.

Thanks Justin, I got the javadocs built.

Now, what I was really hoping to get at is the URL diagrams. According the documentation I should be able to add the -Duml to generate the diagrams. So I ran "mvn javadoc:aggregate -Duml" and got a VERY strange result. Normally I'd include the output but in this case I think it's best not to. Is this how I am supposed to generate UML diagrams and does this work for everyone else?

Thanks,
Michael

Right. We actually don’t really build the uml diagrams, or at least I don’t and we don’t for releases.

Andrea knows more about that i believe, he should be able to better help.

Meh, we should probably remove umlgraph from the build.
When I joined GeoServer I was still working on it and trying to to get diagrams built,
but as all attempts to keep diagrams up to date, including this one, failed so I just
gave up.

UMLGraph often generates too complex diagrams, to keep it at bay one has to
annotate sources which is a maintenance chore… in the end if one really needs
UML diagrams it’s probably better to use one of the many interactive reverse
engineering tools that allow to drag and drop from sources into diagrams, get
an understanding, and then throw away the diagram (it will be useless in six
months/one year anyways).

Cheers
Andrea
