[Geoserver-devel] Names Regression Fix [GEOS-6811]

Hi all,

There’s been a lot of discussion in the community over what to do with the naming regressions introduced in 2.6: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-6811

I’ve created PR #960 in attempt to provide a fix. Essentially what it does is introduces a flag that can be used to allow the catalog to load and generally accepts names even with “weird characters”. By setting the java system property STRICT_PATH to false, many characters which were preventing the catalog from loading will be allowed, although it is documented that their behaviour may be unexpected for certain protocols.

Any thoughts or feedback on this is appreciated!

Cheers,
Travis

Since this is a regression I expect the STRICT_PATH setting should be false by default. Anyone able to confirm?

And since this is a bug fix we should back port to 2.7.x, 2.7.x.

Agreed it should be false by default

And since this is a bug fix we should back port to 2.7.x, 2.7.x.

Indeed, and 2.6.x too

Cheers
Andrea

By the way, want to share a comment I’ve made on the pull request about this topic:
