[Geoserver-devel] New community module proposal

I’m about to start on some work to add long term persistence of WPS process statuses. The current plan is to make use of a GeoTools datastore (mostly JDBC) to provide long term (~ years) to via an implementation of ProcessStatusStore. There will also need to be some optimisation to the existing UI elements that handle WPS statuses as they currently store the entire list in memory and hope for the best while sorting and filtering them. I’m planning to update them to build a Query and load the data already sorted and filtered.

There are no API changes planned and the GUI changes will be kept within the WPS controls section.

Let me know if there are any objections or I shall push ahead

+1 on the module, it's a community module, out of the way, implementing an
existing extension point.

+0 on the improvement on the UI, I don't see particular issues, that part
of the GUI
is brand new anyways, we can double/triple check the changes to that one
class
are ok before porting back to the (new) stable series (aka 2.8.x, once it's
cut)

+1 Sounds fascinating.

Do you have any input on Justin’s API question?

I was exploring the idea of surfacing the currently internal WPSResource as a process parameter offering some internal access.

I could see the same issue crop up for process output, allowing a process to return a GridCoverage, but communicate the temp file location for your long term process status to store.
