GeoServer is growing, and more developers are getting involved, which has
brought about the need for some new lists.
The first is geoserver-users, list information available at
http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/geoserver-users
The geoserver-devel list has been getting 90 messages the past couple of
months, as more developers has lead to more project communication taking
place on the list. The users list should get less traffic, and should be
more geared towards support and help among users. It will also get
project announcements, such as new releases. If you've been annoyed by
the traffic on this list, but still want to stay abreast of geoserver
developments then geoserver-users is the list for you.
The second is geoserver-commits, list info at:
http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/geoserver-commits
It is a read-only list that is sent messages whenever a commit is made to
the cvs repository. We recommend taking it in digest form, or at least
having a good filter for it, as it generates quite a bit of traffic. It
is for developers who really need to know what is going on in the project.
If you are happy with geoserver-devel then just stay with it, hopefully
the additional lists won't lead to confusion. And devel will probably
remain the best place to be involved in geoserver. We'll try to keep
cross posts to a minimum, only project announcements should go to both,
and user problems that are actually bugs will filter up to the devel list
(though probably through jira).
Hope this helps,
Chris
