[Geoserver-devel] Nominate Matthew Birks for GeoServer commit access

I nominate my colleague Matthew Birks for GeoServer commit access.
He will only commit with module maintainers approvals.
He has already fixed one bug in app-schema, that I reviewed and committed: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-3807

I always go and check the email list or Jira for a persons name; while I am happy with the app-schema restriction I do like to see some evidence of involvement, comfortable asking questions on the email list and so on

Thanks for referencing the bug report ... I will review. Looking at the bug report does not show Matthew attaching a patch? Does he have Jira access...

So for now I will vote +0 (cannot inform an opinion) ; and encourage Matthew to take part in the project.

I second Jody's statements here.
Btw, am I wrong or only PMC can nominate and vote for commit access?

GeoTools requires three +1 and no negatives, and all existing committers can vote. GeoServer is far more vague. I think GeoServer should adopt the GeoTools rule; I have been pretending that it does, but that is not the case.

One PSC member is required as far as I know.

Hi Simone,

That's what I thought earlier, but Ben reassured me that any committer can
nominate.

Ah.. but that's Geotools one, and I can't find the documentation in
Geoserver, so you might be right :S.

I guess this was never specified when the initial PSC was created but I don't think the intent was to make only PSC members have the power to nominate for commit access. Just that a PSC member has to approve to approve commit access. Or at least that is my opinion
