[Geoserver-devel] One annoying bit in the OL3 layer preview

Hi,
playing with the OL3 preview I’ve noticed it’s no more possible to right click
the image in the map and grab the url where it originated from.

This is a bummer teaching wise, I use this a lot during workshops to give
people a feel of the protocol, what’s going on when we do tiling, when
we add CQL filters in the filter tool above the OL preview (the one that
opens when you click on the options button above the zoom bar).

Do you know if it’s possible to restore this ability?

Problem is that OL3 has a pure canvas renderer as default. The DOM renderer works as before (set renderer: ‘dom’ on the map instance). Note that the DOM renderer cannot render vector layers (yet).

Thank you, good to know.
We don't render layers as vector in OL yet so that should not be a problem.
Iit could be an interesting option to try though, picking the data from WFS
and the styles using GetStyles (OL can handle SLD to
some extent, yes?). I hear OL3 can do much better to handle vector data, do
you know what's the reasonable limit
before OL makes the browser explode trying to render vector data? :slight_smile:

Tried that, it works fine in single tile mode, but when I switch to tiled
mode the old tiles seem
not to be removed when I zoom in, and the new ones overlay on top of them
creating a funny effect:

Another thing I've noticed is that after a right click (to pick the url) OL
enters in pan mode,
so moving the mouse pointer also moves them map.

Pretty annoying, back to OL2 for me, but we need to fix this.
