Hi,
I see the download page is there and the artifacts are on sourceforge, but the blog
and mail announcement is not there yet…
This is problematic, we decided to go on with a RC Feb 21 (3 weeks) and users
still don’t know the beta is out, how are they going to kick its tires if they don’t
know it is there??
If tomorrow morning I don’t see any announcement yet I’ll try to cook up something.
It’s also a very important announcement to be made, we have several new features
in 2.3 that need to be well advertised…

Yep, the security subsystem has a lot of new features you cannot find in the documentation. I would like to add some sentences.

Hi,
I realise its a beta, but if there are any special requirements for upgrading from 2.x to 2.3 (I think I’ve seen stuff particular to security), it might be worth giving priority to the upgrade documentation: http://docs.geoserver.org/stable/en/user/installation/upgrade.html
Obviously no-one sane is going to be putting this into production, but test systems can still have hours put into configuration. Its what’s stopping me from deploying it.

p.s., What’s the roadmap for release of 2.3 final assuming no delays?

We actually have alreay some betas in production (since they were alphas) :-p
As usual with GeoServer, there is nothing to be done, you just point the new GeoServer to your old GeoServer
data dir (see documentation) and that’s it.
Again as usual, the upgrade might change some bits of the data dir making it incopatible with the previous versions,
so a backup of it is mandatory
p.s., What’s the roadmap for release of 2.3 final assuming no delays?
February 21th is the first RC, and then a new RC every two weeks until no new critical bugs get reported.
Then monthly releases until 2.4.0 gets released, which should happen sometimes in September/October 2013.

Sanity is over-rated anyway

Thanks for this info. I’ll deploy it to test shortly then (we’re a bit away from having a “live”).
Cheers!
Jonathan

Hi Andrea, It is more that I had a window to work on this and it was stretched out. Thanks for making the announcement - I see my computer has sent the announcement I composed on the road.
Thanks for your help (and Justin) in getting this release out.

I had two remaining tasks to sort out last week:
a) upload docs - I did not have access to the required machine. Can I ask for a volunteer?
b) source forge - I am not an admin and cannot issue that email notification. Can I ask to be added.
And one glitch from testing:
The mac zip archive is invalid (and 63 kb), the DMG works fine however
