[Geoserver-devel] Permission to create Quality of Service Community Module

Hi Geoserver PSC and dev community, I hope all of you are doing well.

This email is for to request permission to create a community module (likely named “gs-qos”) that provides OGC Quality of Service Getcapabilities metadata for WMS and WFS.

No objections to the community module.

It looks like the standards work is still in progress. Is this intended to move out of community module land after the standard is finalised? Would it be an extension or folded in to the main WMS / WFS code base?

Ciao Brad,
hard to say what will happen in the future with this work. I personally think this in line with INSPIRE QoS requirements so if the OGC DWG makes this a profile or a best practice for WMS and WFS this might end up in the INSPIRE extension or in an extension of its own.

About going to core, my goal is actually reduce what’s in core rather than adding more stuff :stuck_out_tongue:

This probably needs some qualification. There are community modules that we
use and need to go extension, but there is not enough
people to maintain everything, we have an ever growing code base, but the
set of maintainers is more or less stable...
so there is little choice but to start pruning bits without an active
maintainer to re-balance
(we have already done a bit of that, thing ogr module in geotools, gtopo30,
monitoring-hibernate here, with probably more to go in the future).
