[Geoserver-devel] Post-beta bug fixing fest

Hi,
at Geosolutions we are trying to organize a day devoted to bug fixing for GeoServer, to help hardening the beta in preparation for the RC next month.

Internally we were thinking Monday July 22, but maybe someone else is interested in participating to the effort?
The more the merrier I think?

Cheers
Andrea

I’d love to take part but unfortunately that day i’ll be travelling. But how about this. Since you guys are going to be going through the open issues and prioritizing feel free to flag/assign a few issues for me that you think i can handle and i will get to them sometime that week. Deal?

Could we delay that a little bit? At this rate I won’t have the release out by then. That said I would love to take part next week, how about next Friday?

Hi,
Just a thought, but maybe this could be made a community “event”? As in, include the users list and ask folks to either:
(a) test the release and contribute bug reports
and/or
(b) Do some documentation (what I’ll be trying my hand at).
and/or
(c) New devs who may want to try their hand in the code-base with a small bug fix.
or
something else?

I know more community involvement is always a desirable goal, this seems like a good opportunity. Although I appreciate devs supporting the community in doing those things isn’t necessarily conducive to those same devs actually fixing bugs at the same time.
I’ll leave the details with you folks, but figured it was worth proposing.

Dear All,
me and Andrea had in mind this idea lately to perform regularly (once
every 1/2 months) some kind of remote Bug-Fix Fest or GeoServer
Hackaton to put together remotely, core dvs + user +
whoeverwantstohelpout.

So, long story short, here is what I propose:

-1- We schedule it for Next Fri
-2- I create an hangout on the google plus community
-3- We create a blog post

I would be nice to try and create kind of a 24 h round event (we all
live and work in different timezones, it is feasible depending on the
participation).

E.g. it could start at 9 a.m. Sydney time ( Ciao Jody :)) then we can
take over within Italian time then our US colleagues could take over.

Well, let's year from the others, anyway it looks like Jody would be
in, Me and Andrea (plus probably someone else from GeoSolutions) would
be in and this is already enough to get started for this first time.

Hi Simone,

(once every 1/2 months)

Is that once every 1 to 2 months, or once every half month? I suspect the former, but worth checking.
Cheers,
Jonathan
