You can save your catalog by doing something like this:
HOW TO SAVE CURRENT CONFIGURATION
1. blow away your conf/ directory (but back it up!)
2. copy everything in server\geoserver\data\ to the empty conf\
directory
3. copy services.xml and catalog.xml from server\geoserver\WEB-INF\ to
conf\
4. continue as usual (ie re-war and run)
We're going to be making a GEOSERVER_HOME change this month which will
allow you to "point" your geoserver at a config directory (an actual
one, not one in the WAR). This will allow (1) your config to persist
(2) fix problems with some containers that do not treat your .war files
as real files.
