[Geoserver-devel] pushing csw changes through

Hi all,

We just started back up a project that is going to allow us to push the csw module to supported status. This will include (in addition to all the requirements of an extension):

  • passing cite tests
  • good user docs

A while back we had a discussion about some changes to the csw module as it sits currently. Here is the entire thread.

http://geoserver-devel.821594.n3.nabble.com/Geoserver-devel-review-of-csw-pull-request-td4027889.html

Long story short the changes include:

  • support for the iso application profile
  • integrated catalog metadata store
  • some module reshuffling

I believe i got sign off on the thread to push my changes up into the main repository. But i wanted to ensure no issues with that since that was a while ago. The current branch is in my github.

https://github.com/jdeolive/geoserver/tree/csw/

Thoughts? Objections?

The module was passing the cite tests back in September when I provided the
first CSW version over DC records.
As far as I remember, there are no CITE tests for ISO records

- good user docs

Ha, ok, this is an undertaking

Right. My thought was to get cite passing with the simple store (hopefully
all good to go, but will fix any issues introduced) and the internal store.

Quick question,
are we aiming for 2.4 to have this out?

Good question Simone. We will actually need this on 2.3 so the idea would be to do the development on master and backport to 2.3 once its stable. I don’t forsee any issues with this given that the development is constrained to the csw modules but we’ll be happy to do a proposal when we get there. And if folks would rather keep it on 2.4.x we can work with that as well.

Ah, that might prove to be difficult for the internal store: the CITE tests
are checking that you serve a dozen of quite specific
records, not sure what would happen if you start exposing more (or less)
properties in those

Right. I remember you mentioning that before. Maybe it doesn't make sense.
