Hi all.
Help me with a question. Which is version of the Java that the Geoserver is compiled? Exists some justification to use this version of the Java?

Geoserver is compiled with jdk 1.4.2 (if you find some version that's compiled with another version, it's a bug and please let us know).
The rationale is that many J2EE shops are still running on that version,
and jdk 5 is not available on some less common platforms (freebsd has
jdk 5 now, but they state using it in production envorinment is not
recommended).

We'll upgrade to jdk5 eventually, if not with the next version, probably
with the one after... so it's a matter of time, 6-9 months maybe?
Hard to make estimates, there are lots of factors to be taken care of
in this decision.
