Dave, I tried what you suggested below but all the paths in the generated context docs point to localhost - this needs to change to the full hostname. After doing that, it works, but not brilliantly.
-the image dimensions don’t match the layer proportions so the map is squashed.
-the legend graphic is not fetched
otherwise, at least you can test that the WMS and SLD are working.
SLD configuration problem / bug (RC3):
I created a new style which loaded an SLD into geoserver. I Applied but did not Save. Then I had to restart Geoserver for another reason. As expected, the style was not in the configuration, but when I tried to add it again, Geoserver complained that there was already an SLD by that name, so I had to manually delete the .sld file from geoserver.
Either a newly loaded .sld file should only be saved when the user Saves, or Geoserver should allow the user to overwrite an existing sld through the web app. Or am I missing something?
thanks

Gavin,
This will be fixed in the next version.
Here’s something you can try (I’m not sure if it will work):
- visit the new page - mapPreview.do (the generated/ directory should
be populated) - copy the generated/ directory to either the WAR file or the exploded
WAR file (“server/geoserver/data/”)
This will allow the generated files to be available via http.
