This was on the gml-interest list a bit ago. So I guess maybe it's
emerging as a standard? Basically we'll wait and see...

See my previous posting re BinXML - this provides significant gains in
compression relative to GZIP (like 5:1) and signficant reductions in
memory footprint and CPU resources. W3C is working on a binary version
of the XML infoset (ExpWay is a major player in this development) - so
you can expect codecs and compression for all XML. Note that we deal
with Video and Images on a daily basis BUT we do this through
compression and codec schemes. This will emerge in GML products over
the next year.
