[Geoserver-devel] RE:integrating a html/javascript map client with geoclient

Hi Cameron,

Unfortunately the answer for both question is no. Not
yet.
I believe Nedjo will create one soon, so the
development can be accellerated.

One of the reason is we are re-building geoclient from
scratch, with major aim to work with GeoServer. Strip
out the bells and whistles, focusing on compatibility.

I believe the biggest challenge is working with the
schema. We dont have the luxury of castor or jax-b
in javascript. Not even xpath in browser ; at least
until DOM3 implemented.
Implementing a limited xpath functionality with js can
be achieved, but xml binding with js is a hairy task.
We are not trying to validate the schema (thats user
responsibility); 'only' to create js object dynamicaly
from feature.xsd and geometry.xsd and process the
application schema correctly.
This is important - i think - because GML3 schema has
quadrupled in size from GML2; we can only imagine what
GML4 schema will be :frowning:
Fortunately, GeoServer define a rather restricted
schema which we can use as starting point (even if the
object must be hard coded), and hope users don't
construct twisted schema structures

To me it seems that we are trying to acheive similar
goals to you, and it would be good if we could pool
our energies

Yes, that would be great.
Regarding GeoServerLite, Nedjo can give you better
information when he read this.
(i think he's currently at SVGOpen conf now)

Hello geoclient people,
I've just come across your geoclient and
geoserver-lite project as I was
looking at geoserver.
First few house-keeping issues:
1. Do you have an development email list?
2. Is your code in CVS somewhere? If not it would be
good if you would
consider doing so.

Now,
Raj Singh has put together a html/javascript map
viewing and feature entry
client which interfaces to a postgis database on the
server. It doesn't use
WFS functionality yet, but that is something we would
like to add to it.
Demo is at:
http://www.spatialweb.net/cmb/www/index.html
Code in CVS at:
http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=35246

To me it seems that we are trying to acheive similar
goals to you, and it
would be good if we could pool our energies. I think
Raj's javascript/html
client would be beneficial to you, and we could
benefit from you
geoserver-lite and WFS client processing.

Hope to talk further soon,
Cameron Shorter http://cameron.shorter.net
