SVG can be supported by both the WFS and WMS.
WFS --> I'd see this just as geometry and attributes (ie. no styling).
WMS --> This would be fully styled 'normal' SVG
Trying to get styled SVG out of the WFS is going to be difficult (and
somewhat weird).
The WMS is not just for raster formats - its for "styled" data; like KML
and SVG (as well as all the images).
If you're looking to do styled WFS output, I suggest you use SLD-POST
requests to the WMS.

Giacomo - the "SVGGraphics" you mention is exactly what I was wanting to
do to extend the current renderer to handle other formats.
