[Geoserver-devel] [Re: [Tilecache] metabuffer results in conflicting behavior for point & line labels..]

Andrea, can you help me decipher whether we have similar concept to "labelcache_edge_buffer" of MapServer (what Chris tells) in geoserver? And if there is one, does it help my problem?

I am sorry, I should have cross posted the original question instead of posting separately in two mailing lists.

A Google search of "labelcache_edge_buffer" only returns 3 results, none
of them describing what the option is supposed to do in more detail.

Anyways, from Chris description I gather it's something that avoid labels to be drawn too close to the tile borders. It's not something
we have in fact. When interacting with GeoServer you can specify a
buffer parameter in your request that will act as a meta-buffer,
but will be managed server side. Are you using it? If so, and labels
are getting cut at tile borders then there is a bug at work, since
labels should be not drawn at all if they cross the tile borders
(the original ones, not the buffered ones). Can you confirm this is
what you're seeing, that is, you're using the buffer=xxx vendor
parameter and you get cut labels?

Cheers
Andrea
