I’m ready to work as a developer on the geoserver project. I submitted a contributor agreement (individual_contributor.txt), forked the repository, and built the core and extensions on my local system.
Can somebody suggest a JIRA entry that I should start with?
I should probably start on one of the community modules.

The code base is massive, and requires a good knowledge of GeoTools first
(anything that can be shared
to a larger user base is pushed down to GeoTools, the result is, you cannot
do pretty much anything
if you don't have a good grip on Geotools first).
Of course, also good knoledge of the OGC protocols details is required,
since most of what we do
is in that realm.
So, I would also consider tickets in the GeoTools project as a suitable
starting point.

Hum... I would not focus entirely on community modules, as they might not
have a maintainer, which means,
nobody will be there to review your pull request (without a review, it
won't get merged).
I've been going though the recent GeoTools or GeoServer tickets for a but
now, there are not many tickets
that would be suitable for someone new to the gt/gs codebases... maybe this
one?
