I have noticed that 1.4.x right now works from geotools 2.2.x jars:
- I will branch 1.4.M0
- create a geotools 2.2.RC2 there has been one shapefile bug fix)
- change the dependency to geotools 2.2.RC2
I will update the Release+Guide to account for 1.4.x as I go.

I tried deploying in Tomcat but I got stuck, I have included the
stacktrace so please let take a look and advise.
This is based on a fresh checkout of GeoServer 1.4.x, downloading all GeoTools 2.2.x jars
from the web, and simply dropping the geoserver.war into Tomcat 5.0.28.
The maven build process was on the slower side, I assume this was because I forced it to
download the geotools jars.
I am building 2.2.RC1 (just now branched from 2.2.x) on the off chance that geoserver requires
something newer? (The dependency literally is against 2.2.x so the published jars should of been fine).
