[Geoserver-devel] Reminder 2.4 going out next week

There is still time for last minuet fixes

Let me know if testing turns up anything that will delay the release train.

I believe there are a bunch of issues that need to be fixed before
releasing a final:
* https://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-6000, which results in GS inability
to serve further requests in some cases (not totally clear to me what the
ingredients to trigger this issue are)
* http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-5985, which is a no go for windows
users (I should be able to fix this one today or tomorrow)
* http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-5975, which prevents using the CSS
extention under java 6, tried to get David attention on this one but
failed, we can either decide to drop the extension from the release or
build manually a new version that is java 6 compatibile, imho releasing
with an extension that does not work with the only officially supported JDK
is not an option

Cheers

Just a question, will it be an other RC or the final 2.4.0 Release? I’d like to announce the upcoming release at Transifex, that Team can finish the translations.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, should the page http://geoserver.org/display/GEOS/GeoTools+and+GeoServer+release+schedule be updated to show the current schedule plans or does exists an other page for new 2.4 stable and 2.5 lates releases (in addition top GeoTools releases)

Even if we fix them all, imho we should ask around some opinions about how
invasive the fixes
are, and if they warrant another RC as a result.

I agree that we should fix these all but also think the changes are non trivial enough to warrant another RC.

We did not have a volunteer to make additional release candidates. If everyone likes I can delay a week before making 2.4.0 in order to give time for the above issues to be fixes.

Frank I assume you would like to translate now (against a nightly build) so any translations are included in the 2.4.0 release?

I’d like to contribute translations back for the following languages because these were completed recently for the stable release branch (2.4.x):

  • Korean,
  • Dutch,
  • Spanish and
  • German

I guess I can make it till Sunday night this week. Please could you please delay for an other week? Please correct me if I’m wrong but we are talking about the 2.4.x branch where stable release will be build from?

Thanks

Jody,
you’re talking about delays rather casually, and yet the time boxed release procedures
were put in place to avoid delays to start with, the procedure we voted says “a release
every 2 weeks until no more blockers are found”, it does not say “in time for FOSS4G at
all costs”.

You should officially ask for a delay, and/or see if there is going to be someone ready
to make 2.4.0 (or an RC3) Sept 18th (not everybody is going to be at FOSS4G)

Possibly in a separate thread, this one has become too deep.

I’ve had a fix for GEOS-5975 sitting on GeoScript master for a while, yesterday I finally took the time to update the maven repo and refresh the dependency on the GeoServer side. Ironically the problem arose from the one .java file in all of GeoScript Scala.

It would be nice if someone could grab the latest nightlies and confirm the fix, but I think the issue can be closed now.

We’ll update that page, but we can do so only when 2.4.0 final is out. Right now we have the above issues that
we need to debate (do we go out with final, or with RC2?) and a user could still report a blocker (although imho
GEOS-6000 is enough of one already)

I've had a fix for GEOS-5975 sitting on GeoScript master for a while,
yesterday I finally took the time to update the maven repo and refresh the
dependency on the GeoServer side. Ironically the problem arose from the
one .java file in all of GeoScript Scala.

It would be nice if someone could grab the latest nightlies and confirm
the fix, but I think the issue can be closed now.

Just did so, looking good. I believe the patch for the pom files was still
not ported
to the 2.4.x branch, or was it?

Btw, any news about these pull requests?

From translation teams point of view we are fine after several commits for Korean, German, Spanish and Dutch properties files.
Thank you for your attention
