[Geoserver-devel] Reminder for all documentation writers

La oferta es tentadora. Pero quiero saber: ¿que tareas implica asumir esa responsabilidad? Para evaluar si podre cumplirlas.

The offer is tempting. But I want to know: what tasks implies that responsibility? To assess whether it could comply.

This kind of maintainership is gonna be new really, but I guess it means keeping track of the changes in the main docs and organize the update to the spanish ones so they are as much in sync as possible. By orginizing the updates I mean either the sections you want to maintain yourself or a diff of the pending ones so other translators can know what's pending?

anyway I'm just guessing.

Cheers,
Gabriel

Great point. If we do decide on a single primary maintainer of the
user docs, I think it makes sense to do so on a language by language

Expert service straight from the developers.

The task would be as Gabriel states, taking a diff of changes from the english docs, translating them and applying them to the spanish version. Which could potentially be a bit of work since you won't be able to apply the diffs automatically with a patch tool.

However, how often you updated the docs would be up to you, and would depend on how much time you are willing and able to put into it. Ideally we could keep the docs in sync as of every release. But again, this would depend on you. Perhaps every second release if your time is short? Partially translated documentation is better then no translated documentation. So it would be flexible.

How much time can you see yourself putting into the translation?

Great point. If we do decide on a single primary maintainer of the
user docs, I think it makes sense to do so on a language by language
basis. Ideally we can get volunteers to maintain the docs in other
languages and play the same role that mike does with the english
