[Geoserver-devel] #roadmap update, Aug 11, 09

Hi all,

* 2.0-RC1

Scheduled to come out this week. The only remaining high priority issue are:

http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-3332

Which was discussed a bit on the mailing list yesterday.

* 1.7.7 release date

Unset as of now. There has been a bit of confusion about whether we want to keep up a monthly release cycle. Mark has been given finite resources to put toward 1.7.x releases. And it seems that this was contingent on keeping up a monthly release cycle.

On the other hand we have a stable branch in which a monthly release is probably a bit of overkill.

That said, if keeping Mark in the game performing releases means we have to do a release every second month I think its definitely worth it.

It would be nice if Mark could confirm as their seems to be a bit of confusion. I have gotten a few comments out of Jody but nothing definitive.

I think a good solution was presented by Gabriel on the list yesterday, so I am going to proceed with that today and hopefully wrap this issue.

Justin,
Every two months is fine.

Part of the selling point was to keep up the monthlies, but that's not utterly critical to keeping me. If I start getting grief over it, I'll let you know :slight_smile:

My current concern is the timing of the next release, possibly a couple weeks before the conference. Depending on other commitments, I may be hard-pressed to scrape enough time together. But we can deal with that closer to the date.

Cool, thanks for the clarification Mark. So i will leave it to you to make the final call. A few of us prefer a release every two months, but if it becomes an issue that they are not coming out monthly, that will change.

Totally understandable. And we can shuffle around release dates accordingly.
